[SYD] York Street Battles #42 – May 28th

ysb_2016_games

Sydney’s premier monthly will be powering on after BAM 8, however there are some significant changes to note starting from this month. Due to changes within the venue that are out of our control, there will be changes to the pricing of YSB from May on:

  • There will no longer be a discount for first-time entrants. Those that bring full setups (monitor + console) are still eligible for a discount, however it is the responsibility of those bringing gear to let staff know that a setup has been brought.
  • Starting from May’s YSB, a pre-registration will be used for attendees. For those that register online, the price will stay at $15. Upon arrival, a receipt must be shown at the front desk in order to validate the payment and a wristband will be collected as normal. On the day registration is still possible though the price has been increased to $20. Gear refunds will be given upon arrival on the day. Pre-register for May’s YSB here

There’s a lot to look forward this month as always, here are the details:

Date: Saturday, May 28th
Time: 11:30am – 10:30pm
Location: Red Room, Level 1, 99 York St Sydney NSW 2000
Entry Fee: $15 online, $20 at the door (pre-reg here)

Centralised registration will cease at 2pm so if you arrive after that please find one of the tournament organisers floating around and sign up via one of us. Registration for all Smash games opens at 12 and closes at 12:30.

Tournament times for this month are as follows:
12:30pm – Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
2:00pm – Street Fighter V
3:00pm – The King of Fighters XIII
6:00pm – Mortal Kombat X
Update: 7:00pm – Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

Tournament participation is optional and tournaments will only be run if there are a sufficient number of entrants for each bracket on the day. Signups will open 30 minutes before each scheduled start time, look for a YSB staff member to register. The tournament fee for SFV and MKX is $5 with the entry distributed to the top 3 players. Tournament fees for other games are up to the organiser of each respective tournament and will be decided on the day.

In addition to the listed tournaments, there will be plenty of casuals available for a variety of games on the day. These range from the KOF franchise to older titles to a variety of anime games. If you’d like to co-ordinate casuals for a particular game, drop a comment on the Facebook event or speak to a YSB staff member on the day and we’ll be more than happy to try and co-ordinate a setup. BYO set-ups are also strongly encouraged and discounted entry will be offered to those who bring a full set-up (monitor + console).

See you there!

[Syd] Brackets Online for SFV at The Gamesmen – February 20th

sf5_oh_gamesmen_20160120

Online pre-registrations for the OzHadou X The Gamesmen official Street Fighter V launch tournament have now closed. Thanks to all that prepaid for this event, allowing us to prepare the brackets in advance.

Based on the pre-registrations we’ve set a cap of 64 players for this tournament. Currently there are 18 spots still available for people that sign up on the day. These will be offered on a “first-come, first serve” basis, so if you want a shot at around $1,000 in prizes be sure to arrive early to avoid missing out.

To help us run the tournament we’ll be using 4 double elimination pools, with 2 players from each advancing to the final top 8 bracket. The brackets can be viewed on the OzHadou Challonge page. Please check your assigned pool and note your pool’s start time below.

Brackets: Challonge
On-the-day registrations: 11.30AM
Pool A: 12.00PM
Pool B: 1.00PM
Pool C: 2.00PM
Pool D: 3.00PM
Top 8: 4.00PM

Competitors need to be in-store at least 10 minutes prior to the start of their pool. Players that do not report to organisers when called to play will be disqualified.

Spectators are welcome, conditional on available space in the store. Casual play will be available where possible but please be aware that tournament matches must take precedence where necessary.

Finally if you can’t make it in on Saturday we’ll be streaming the action live via Goodpart’s Twitch TV channel. We have an embed of the stream available after the jump.

[Syd] Prepayments Open for SFV at The Gamesmen – February 20th

sf5_oh_gamesmen_20160120

Street Fighter V is almost here, and the Sydney launch tournament organised by OzHadou in partnership with The Gamesmen and QV Software is less than a week away.

We’ve received fantastic support for this event on Facebook and want to make sure that people who come along have a great experience. With this in mind we’ve introduced online prepayments for participants. People who pay in advance will be guaranteed a place in the tournament, with their pool start time posted online beforehand.

We will still be taking registrations on the day, however remaining spaces in the tournament will be capped and entry on the day will be on a strict “first come, first serve” basis. On-the-day registrations may also have to wait if they are randomly seeded into a late-starting pool.

To prepay and secure your spot please follow these instructions. Prepayments will be closing at 7pm on Tuesday February 16th (SF5 launch day!), after which we will announce the player cap and provide pool assignments for all prepaid participants.

For full details about this tournament, including the fantastic prizes on offer, visit the official OzHadou event page.
