[SYD] York Street Battles #48 – January 28th

2017’s first YSB is almost upon us, featuring a tonne of tournament and casual play in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. There’s a heap to look forward to this month, as it marks Sydney’s first Season 2 tournament for Street Fighter V, Tekken 7 will be returning with the public debut of a brand new build featuring characters Lee and Miguel, the Virtua Fighter community will be running a War Games exhibition in place of a tournament this month and much, much more. You can save yourself a bit of hassle by registering for the event ahead of time, so pre-register for January’s YSB here. Please note, you must provide staff with a purchase receipt from PayPal upon entry or your prepayment cannot be validated.

There’s a lot to look forward this month as always, here are the details:

Date: Saturday, January 28th
Time: 11:30am – 10:30pm
Location: Red Room, Level 1, 99 York St Sydney NSW 2000
Entry Fee: $20 at the door or online (pre-reg here)

Centralised registration will cease at 2pm so if you arrive after that, please find one of the tournament organisers floating around and sign up via one of us. Registration for all Smash games open at 12 and close at 12:30.

Tournament participation is optional and tournaments will only be run if there are a sufficient number of entrants for each bracket on the day. Signups will open 30 minutes before each scheduled start time, look for a YSB staff member to register. The tournament fee for SFV and MKX is $5 with the entry distributed to the top 3 players. Tournament fees for other games are up to the organiser of each respective tournament and will be decided on the day.

In addition to the listed tournaments, there will be plenty of casuals available for a variety of games on the day. These range from the KOF franchise to older titles to a variety of anime games. If you’d like to co-ordinate casuals for a particular game, drop a comment on the Facebook event or speak to a YSB staff member on the day and we’ll be more than happy to try and co-ordinate a setup. BYO set-ups are also strongly encouraged.

[Syd] Bingefest 2016 results

Yesterday marked a special day in Australian FGC history, as we wrapped the first ever tournament to be held at the Sydney Opera House! There was a great mix of old and new faces, and players of all skill levels got to appreciate this unique Street Fighter experience. The full results for yesterday’s tournament (and the last Sydney tournament of 2016) can be found below:

Update: Tekken 7: Fated Retribution will be returning to YSB once again this month, thanks to our friends at Bandai Namco Australia! We’ll have 3 PS4 setups at the venue for casuals all day as well as a tournament at 4pm.

November’s YSB is shaping up to be another stacked event, with one last chance to get some games on NSW turf in before SXC 2016, the thrilling conclusion to this year’s Victory Road series and all your usual tournament and casual favourites. You can save yourself a bit of cash by registering for the event ahead of time, so pre-register for November’s YSB here. Please note, you must provide staff with a purchase receipt from PayPal upon entry or your prepayment cannot be validated.

[SYD] York Street Battles #44 – July 23rd

If you think the hype train is stopping at EVO you are sorely mistaken, as YSB kicks on again in late July. All your fighting game favourites will be returning to 99 on York for another month of tournaments and casuals.  The Virtua Fighter community are once again offering the chance for new players to sit down with seasoned veterans before the tournament starts at 6:30 to talk basics through to advanced techniques, so if you’ve been looking to pick the brains of a more experienced player and learn the ropes now is the perfect time. Like last month, you can save yourself a bit of cash by registering for the event ahead of time, so pre-register for July’s YSB here.

YSB 44 is also an OzHadou Nationals 14 qualifying event! Placing well at this YSB will give you seeding at the nationals in August, so make sure you don’t miss it .If you haven’t already, make sure you register for OHN to save yourself a bit of cash during the early bird period. There’ll also be the ability for you to sign up to OHN on the day.

[Syd] T7 Tournament at Bandai Namco HQ – July 2nd

UPDATE: unfortunately this event has been cancelled, though it might be rescheduled for a later date. Please refer to this Facebook post for details.

Melbourne isn’t the only city vying for national supremacy in Tekken 7 at the OzHadou Nationals 14. With Fated Retribution about to arrive in arcades, the fine folks at Bandai Namco ANZ have invited OzHadou community manager FaYd to run a “farewell” arcade tournament for Tekken 7 in their office in Redfern.

The office is being open specifically for this event, so participants are asked to respect the staff and premises while attending. Thanks to Steve from Bandai Namco for providing the Sydney Tekken community with this great opportunity.
