[AU/NZ] CPT Online Ranking Event for Asia/Oceania – August 7th


Last week Capcom announced the online ranking events for this year’s Capcom Pro Tour. One of the two Asia/Oceania online ranking events includes covers Australia and New Zealand. This is a rare opportunity for Australian Street Fighter V players to get involved with the CPT without the need to travel.

Date: Sunday, August 7th
Time: 10:00am Singapore Standard Time (SST)
Locations: Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam
Requirements: Challonge account, wired internet connection with minimum 3Mbps upload speed.
Entry Fee: Free; tournament capped at 256 players.

Although entry is free, places are strictly limited and at the time of posting almost 70 of the slots have already been taken. If you meet the requirements and are interested in participating be sure to read the rules on the CPT website then sign up via Challonge.

[Syd] OzHadou Nationals 14 – August 26th-28th


OHN returns! The OzHadou Nationals are Australia’s longest running fighting game tournament series and OzHadou’s premier annual event.

This year marks the 14th OHN tournament and it’s going to be one of the biggest on record. Here are the first round of major announcements for OHN14:

  • Final Australian 2016 event in Capcom Pro Tour Asia for Street Fighter V.
  • Super Smash Bros. returns to OHN with official singles and doubles tournaments for both WiiU and Melee.
  • The first Australian major tournament for Tekken 7: Fated Retribution with arcade setups provided by Bandai Namco.
  • Major tournaments for popular York Street Battles games Mortal Kombat XL and Virtua Fighter 5: Finals Showdown.
  • Large new venue in the Sydney CBD to accommodate more participants and spectators than ever before!

Date: Friday, August 26th – Sunday, August 28th

Entry Fees: $10 per tournament plus venue entry of $60 (discounts available – see below); spectators $10 each

OHN features mandatory online registration for all attendees. Registration is now open – visit the OHN registration page to purchase your pass. Competitors that register by July 31st will receive a $10 discount on venue entry and have the chance to purchase an official, limited-run OHN14 t-shirt.

[Melb] BAM8 – International Players, Salty Suite and more


Battle Arena Melbourne 8 is almost here! This weekend the Capcom Pro Tour descends on Melbourne for the first of two Australian CPT Asia ranking events in 2016. Almost 600 people have registered for this event and with on-the-day registration available for some games that number is likely to keep growing.

In recent BAM news Razer Xian, EG Momochi, MJS Haitani and Mago-san have been announced as competitors for BAM8, providing a rare chance for Australians to experience world-class in person.

An extra event has recently been announced as part of BAM8: the Salty Suite. Taking place in the Melbourne CBD this Thursday, the Salty Suite will provide players a chance to get in some games with the international Smash Bros. competitors ahead of time. This bonus event is being run by BAM8 organisers CouchWarriors.

Finally the brackets for Tekken 7 at BAM8 are now available on Facebook. There’s a great $1,000 pot bonus up for grabs courtesy of Bandai Namco Australia so if you’re in the T7 tournament make sure you know what you’ll be up against.

[Melb] BAM8 – Poll for Friday SF5 Exhibitions


As BAM8 draws near, organisers CouchWarriors are working hard to finalise the tournament schedule. Muttons has recently started a poll regarding exhibition opportunities for Street Fighter V on Friday May 13th of BAM8.

The options under consideration are:

  • an open entry 3-on-3 team tournament;
  • an invitational 5-on-5, state vs. state exhibition.

[Melb] Battle Arena Melbourne 8 – May 13th-15th


Battle Arena Melbourne (BAM) is Australia’s largest major fighting game tournament. Organised by CouchWarriors, BAM8 combines some of the biggest fighting game franchises – Super Smash Bros., Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat – to produce one of the most diverse and competitive fighting game tournaments in the country.

Street Fighter V in particular will be hotly contested as BAM8 is part of the Capcom Pro Tour for 2016.

Entry Fees: $10 per tournament plus venue entry of $40/$50 (see below)

Pre-registration for BAM is now available at the official BAM website. Venue entry is $40 for pre-registrations and $50 for those that register at the event. Tournament entry is an additional $10 per bracket.

Pre-registrations will be open until Sunday, May 1st so be sure to get in before then to secure the discounted rate.

[Syd/Melb] OHN14 and BAM8 are Ranking Events for Capcom Pro Tour 2016


Today Capcom announced details for the Capcom Pro Tour 2016. The Capcom Pro Tour offers players all around the world the opportunity to qualify for one of 32 coveted spots in the Capcom Cup Finals for Street Fighter V. This year the tour includes a massive 72 events across four regions worldwide.

The great news for the Australian fighting game community is that two of the ranking events in this year’s tour are based in Australia: Battle Arena Melbourne 8 and the OzHadou Nationals 14!


BAM8, OHN14 and other Capcom Pro Tour Ranking Events will give competitors the chance to win ranking points needed to qualify for a place in the Capcom Cup Finals. Winners of Street Fighter V at each event will also be sent to the Capcom Pro Tour Asia Finals in South Korea – a CPT Premier event where the winner will earn a direct qualification into the Capcom Cup Finals.
