[Melb] BAM8 – International Players, Salty Suite and more


Battle Arena Melbourne 8 is almost here! This weekend the Capcom Pro Tour descends on Melbourne for the first of two Australian CPT Asia ranking events in 2016. Almost 600 people have registered for this event and with on-the-day registration available for some games that number is likely to keep growing.

In recent BAM news Razer Xian, EG Momochi, MJS Haitani and Mago-san have been announced as competitors for BAM8, providing a rare chance for Australians to experience world-class in person.

An extra event has recently been announced as part of BAM8: the Salty Suite. Taking place in the Melbourne CBD this Thursday, the Salty Suite will provide players a chance to get in some games with the international Smash Bros. competitors ahead of time. This bonus event is being run by BAM8 organisers CouchWarriors.

Finally the brackets for Tekken 7 at BAM8 are now available on Facebook. There’s a great $1,000 pot bonus up for grabs courtesy of Bandai Namco Australia so if you’re in the T7 tournament make sure you know what you’ll be up against.

Time is running out to register for Battle Arena Melbourne 8. People have until Saturday May 7th to register online. Numbers are on track to break 400 competitors, continuing BAM’s undisputed position as Australia’s largest fighting game major.

As mentioned previously, Bandai Namco are bringing arcade cabinets to BAM8 for Tekken 7. They also recently announced a $1,000 pot bonus for T7 making this the biggest prize pool for a Tekken tournament in recent memory. The top 4 in Tekken 7 will receive cash prizes so if you’re a serious Tekken competitor this is one tournament you can’t afford to miss!

[Melb] BAM8 – Trailer, Online Registration Closing


Battle Arena Melbourne 8 is almost here! In less than 2 weeks Melbourne’s premier fighting game major will take place at CQ Functions. Spanning 3 days this Capcom Pro Tour ranking event and Dead or Alive 5: Last Round Battle Royal qualifier will be one of the biggest fighting game events in Australia this year.

If you’re still on the fence about BAM8, check out the recently released trailer from organisers CouchWarriors.

Online registrations will be closing this Saturday May 7th, after which attendees will incur a $10 venue entry surcharge and likely wait in long queues when registering on the day. Official tournaments for Smash Bros. can only be entered via online registration, so for some pre-registration will be critical.

BAM8 Update: Tekken 7


Some great news for the Australian Tekken community today: Tekken 7 is coming to Battle Arena Melbourne 8!

Bandai Namco Australia will be bringing a Tekken 7 arcade setup to BAM8 for both casual and tournament play, with Tekken 7 now added to the official line-up of BAM8 tournaments. This will be the first major tournament for Tekken 7 in Australia and a great chance for people to see what the game is all about given its limited availability in Australian arcades.

Numbers for BAM8 have been rising steadily with over 160 people already registered. Pre-registration will close on Saturday May 7th, one week before the event. Be sure to preregister online to jump the queue on arrival and secure your spot in some of the 13 tournament games on offer.

BAM8 Update: Afterparty, qualifiers, pot bonuses, side tournaments and more!


Hi guys BAM8 is just around the corner, and we have a few announcements for you:

First off we have new pot bonuses for BAM8 – a $500 pot bonus for the top 3 Australian players for Smash 4 and Melee, and a $500 pot bonus for Street Fighter V!

[Melb] BAM8 – Poll for Friday SF5 Exhibitions


As BAM8 draws near, organisers CouchWarriors are working hard to finalise the tournament schedule. Muttons has recently started a poll regarding exhibition opportunities for Street Fighter V on Friday May 13th of BAM8.

The options under consideration are:

  • an open entry 3-on-3 team tournament;
  • an invitational 5-on-5, state vs. state exhibition.

[SYD] York Street Battles #41 – April 30th


Update: The Sydney Smash community will be joining forces with us at this YSB! Sign-ups for both Smash 4 and Melee will be taken from 12pm and both brackets will begin at 12:30.

Sydney’s premier monthly event will be returning once again in April . Please note that 99 on York have asked that all YSB attendees sign-in at the front desk whenever entering the venue, please make sure you sign-in from now on. Those driving in might want to consider a membership at the club – $5 a year with $5 off parking every visit (plus you won’t have sign-in as a temporary member every month).

We’re pleased to announce that YSB 41 will also be a qualifying event for Battle Arena Melbourne 8! The winner of both Street Fighter V and Mortal Kombat X will be granted seeding at Melbourne’s major next month.

There’s a lot to look forward this month, here are the details:

Date: Saturday, April 30th
Time: 11:30am – 10:30pm
Location: Red Room, Level 1, 99 York St Sydney NSW 2000
Entry Fee: $15 (venue entry)

Centralised registration will cease at 2pm so if you arrive after that please find one of the tournament organisers floating around and sign up via one of us.

Tournament times for this month are as follows:
12:30pm – Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
2:00pm – Street Fighter V
3:00pm – The King of Fighters XIII
4:00pm – Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown
5:00pm – Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-
6:00pm – Mortal Kombat X

Tournament participation is optional and tournaments will only be run if there are a sufficient number of entrants for each bracket on the day. Signups will open 30 minutes before each scheduled start time, look for a YSB staff member to register. The tournament fee for SFV and MKX is $5 with the entry distributed to the top 3 players. Tournament fees for other games are up to the organiser of each respective tournament and will be decided on the day.

In addition to the listed tournaments, there will be plenty of casuals available for a variety of games on the day. These range from the KOF franchise to older titles to a variety of anime games. If you’d like to co-ordinate casuals for a particular game, drop a comment on the Facebook event or speak to a YSB staff member on the day and we’ll be more than happy to try and co-ordinate a setup. BYO set-ups are also strongly encouraged and discounted entry will be offered to those who bring a full set-up (monitor + console).

[Per] WA BAM8 Prologue at The Glitch – April 17th


As Battle Arena Melbourne 8 draws near, CouchWarriors has reached out to local communities to host BAM8 prologue events. Competitors at the prologue tournaments have the chance to earn seeding points for the official BAM8 brackets.

The first of these prologue events has been announced. OzHadou Perth and V Energy are teaming up with The Glitch to hold the WA BAM8 prologue event on April 17th. BAM8 seeding points will be up for grabs in Street Fighter V and Mortal Kombat XL, and a side tournament for UMvC3 will also be on offer.

This is a BYO controller event and legacy controller support is “discouraged” so make sure you come prepared!

[Melb] Battle Arena Melbourne 8 – May 13th-15th


Battle Arena Melbourne (BAM) is Australia’s largest major fighting game tournament. Organised by CouchWarriors, BAM8 combines some of the biggest fighting game franchises – Super Smash Bros., Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat – to produce one of the most diverse and competitive fighting game tournaments in the country.

Street Fighter V in particular will be hotly contested as BAM8 is part of the Capcom Pro Tour for 2016.

Date: Friday, May 13th – Sunday, May 15th
Location: CQ Functions, 113 Queen St, Melbourne, VIC 3000
Entry Fees: $10 per tournament plus venue entry of $40/$50 (see below)

Pre-registration for BAM is now available at the official BAM website. Venue entry is $40 for pre-registrations and $50 for those that register at the event. Tournament entry is an additional $10 per bracket.

Pre-registrations will be open until Sunday, May 1st so be sure to get in before then to secure the discounted rate.
