Protector of Australia’s Skies: Interview with George “Afterdeath” Hu

Russia hasn’t seen this much love since Buranovskiye Babushki at Eurovision.

In the span of a month, Zangief has seen a dominating first/third place finish at sf25 Los Angeles, a top 5 at SBa, and on the local front, a first place finish at EB Expo Sydney, as well as a top 5 finish at Battle Arena Melbourne. The man responsible for the latter two results, George “Afterdeath” Hu, sits down to talk about Vodka Gorbalsky, Beijing arcades, and a technique so unique that it was named after him: The George.

New Feature: Aggregated Community News

I’ve put together a fighting game community news aggregator that pulls headlines in from various fighting game websites and bundles them into one location. You can check the page out here.

Right now this is very basic and in need of some testing, though feel free to give it a try. If you know of additional sites you feel should be added to this page please let me know in the comments section below or via the OzHadou forums.

Currently the aggregated sites include:

– Shoryuken
– EventHubs
– Hadoken.net
– iPlaywinner
– Level-Up
– VFDC

Fighting to the top: The Verge's Tracey Lien covers Shadowloo Showdown

Tracey Lien was one of the journalists to cover Shadowloo Showdown, and I saw her hard at work throughout the weekend interviewing the various international guests. After some months had passed I wondered what had become of her feature on Shadowloo Showdown, but it’s now evident that she has really put that time to good use.

Fighting to the top” is a really in-depth look at our scene and the various personalities that dominate at the highest level. It offers great insight into the community and why people approach fighting games and compete at them with such passion and dedication. It’s obvious she has put a lot of work into this article, especially when you consider her perspective from outside the fighting game community. It’s a great article, beautifully balanced between chapter concepts and player profiles, and you should definitely give it a read.

OzHadou.net – now with comments!

As mentioned on the forums, OzHadou’s front page now (finally) has article comment support.

Please excuse the sketchy CSS (as the yet-to-be-released replacement front page is still a work in progress) so for now this ought to do the trick.

The comment system uses Disqus rather than the stock WordPress comments due to some historical back-end incompatibilities. The bonus is that it allows you to authenticate and leave comments via a number of popular social systems you’re likely already a member of, such as Facebook, OpenID, Google+, Twitter and Yahoo!

Please give this a shot if you’re inclined to check out the front page from time to time.
