OCE FGC Bushfire Relief Charity Tournament Summary

With the tragedy of the ongoing bushfire affecting large parts of Australia, the Oceanic Fighting Game Community banded together in support of those who are affected by the bushfires. On the 18th and 19th of January, the community ran a two day online tournament event covering a multitude of games across the community. Partnering with Gamer Aid Australia, a charity drive was hosted for all affected. All money raised, including tournament entry fees, will be transferred to Gamer Aid Australia’s donation fund for NSW Rural Fire Service and WIRES. These funds will be split evenly before being donated to the two organisations.

We’re absolutely floored with the reception this event has had. With an initial estimate of $2,000, we easily achieved that within a few hours of the event, closing off the first day with a bit over $4,000! With one more day to go, we managed to double that to raise just over $8,000!

From the larger games like Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V, to the smaller or lesser known games like Killer Instinct and Touhou Hisoutensoku, it’s wonderful to see people from all corners of our FGC come together. From participating in the chats of eachother’s communities, to the many enjoyable quips and shoutouts that were made over the weekend. We hope you all had as much of a good time as we did with this event.

From all of us who organised this, we’d like to extend a heartfelt gratitude for all of you who helped make this the success it was, from viewers, donators to competitors. It was an absolute pleasure to see the community come together for such a cause.
